(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
