The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 And the elevated canopy 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
