The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
