۞ Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 “And stop them – they are to be questioned.” 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Certainly, that is how We deal with Al-Mujrimun (polytheists, sinners, criminals, the disobedient to Allah, etc.). 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 Not in the least. He has brought the truth and confirmed the other messengers. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 for them awaits a known provision, 41 fruits. And they are receivers of generosity 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 a goblet from a spring shall be passed round to them 45 delicious to those who drink it 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 The speaker among them said, “I had a companion.” – 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For such a reward should the workers perform. 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
