۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous. 75
