Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter among My servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
