The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing exalting. 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and a few from later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and waters gushing, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
