He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And whereas he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
