The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
