The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
