Nay, by the moon, 32 By the receding night 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 A warning to mankind, 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 “And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
