The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM MIM. 1 The Romans are vanquished, 2 in the neighbouring land; but after their defeat they shall gain victory 3 in a few years. All power belongs to Allah both before and after. On that day will the believers rejoice 4 In the help of God. He helps whom He will; He is all-mighty, ever-merciful. 5 The promise of Allah; Allah does not renege on His promise, but most people do not know. 6 They know an outward part of this life, but of the Everlasting Life they are inattentive. 7 Do they not contemplate within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. And indeed, many of the people, in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers. 8 What, have they never journeyed in the land and seen what was the end of those before them? They were stronger in might than themselves, and they plowed the land and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it. And to them, their Messengers came with clear signs, and Allah did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. 9 In the long run evil in the extreme will be the End of those who do evil; for that they rejected the Signs of Allah, and held them up to ridicule. 10
