He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
