Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the break of Day 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
