EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Do they say, "He is only a poet and we are waiting to see him die!?" 30 Say: 'Await! I shall be awaiting with you.' 31 Does their reasoning prompt them to this, or they are a people rebellious? 32 Or say they: he hath fabricated it: aye they will not believe. 33 Let them produce a phrase like it, if what they say is true! 34 Or, were they created out of nothing? Or, were they their own creators? 35 Or is it they who created the heavens and the earth? No; the truth is that they lack sure faith. 36 Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like? 37 Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest! 38 Do the daughters belong to Him and the sons to you? 39 Do you (Muhammad) ask them for any payment (for your preaching) which they cannot afford? 40 Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down? 41 Seek they to lay a plot? Then those who disbelieve it is they who shall be plotted against. 42 Or do they have a god apart from God? He is too exalted for what they associate with Him! 43 Even if they were to see a part of the heavens falling down upon them, they would say, "It is only dense cloud". 44 So leave them till they encounter their Day in which they shall be thunderstruck. 45 A day in which their guile will naught avail them, nor will they be helped. 46 And verily, for those who do wrong, there is a punishment beyond that. But most of them know not. 47 Await the judgement of your Lord, for you are always before Our eyes, and glorify your Lord with praises when you rise, 48 And in a part of the night exalt Him and after [the setting of] the stars. 49
