Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha. Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
