The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Praise be to Allah Who has revealed to His servant the Book devoid of all crookedness; 1 Straightforward, that it may warn of a severe violence from before Him, and bring glad tidings to the believers who work righteous works that theirs shall be a goodly hire. 2 and they will live for ever therein. 3 And to warn those who say, "Allah has taken a son." 4 No knowledge whatever have they of Him, and neither had their forefathers: dreadful - is this saying that comes out of their mouths, [and] nothing but falsehood do they utter! 5 But wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death with grief over them if they are not willing to believe in this message? 6 Behold, We have willed that all beauty on earth be a means by which We put men to a test, [showing] which of them are best in conduct; 7 And lo! We shall make all that is thereon a barren mound. 8 Do you think that the Men of the Cave and the Inscription were one of Our wondrous signs? 9 When the young men took refuge in the Cave – then said, “Our Lord! Give us mercy from Yourself, and arrange guidance for us in our affair.” 10 We then thumped upon their ears in the Cave for a number of years. (* Put them to sleep.) 11 Then We roused them, in order to test which of the two parties was best at calculating the term of years they had tarried! 12
