The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder, 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 Then as to him who shall be given his book in his right hand 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 Therefore, give them the news of a painful punishment. 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
