A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
