Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 when he fled like a runaway slave onto a laden ship. 140 cast lots, and was among the losers. 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah) 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ but We cast him upon the wilderness, and he was sick, 145 and We caused a pumpkin tree to grow over him. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 And they believed, whrefore We let them enjoy life for a season. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you decide? 154 What, and will you not remember? 155 Or, do you have a clear authority? 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 They claim that He has kinship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know that they will be produced before Him [for judgement]. 158 Glorified is Allah! (He is Free) from what they attribute unto Him! 159 Except the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin]. 160 But as for you, and that you worship, 161 shall not be able to tempt anyone away from Allah 162 except him who shall roast in Hell. 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers); 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 They say, 167 “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 that they shall receive Our help 172 And most surely Our host alone shall be the victorious ones. 173 (Muhammad), stay away from them for a while 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 When it descends into their courtyard, it will be terrible for those who have already been warned. 177 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from them, 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 LIMITLESS in His glory is thy Sustainer, the Lord of almightiness, [exalted] above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
