The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
