Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
