The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
