The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven breaks apart. 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Whoever is given the Record in his right hand 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And return to his people in happiness. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 Yes! Verily, his Lord has been ever beholding him! 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness; 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 You shall certainly travel from stage to stage (in this life and in the Hereafter). 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
