Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
