The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those on the right hand; 38
