Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 Had he not been one of those who struggled hard, 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 We sent him as a messenger to a hundred thousand people or more, 147 And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time. 148 (Muhammad), ask them, "Do daughters belong to your Lord and sons to them? 149 Did We create the angels as females the while they witnessed?” 150 No indeed! It is one of their fabrications when they say: 151 'Allah has begotten' They are truly liars. 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Will ye not then be admonished? 155 Do you have clear authority? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), 159 Except the slaves of Allah, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islamic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allah). 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 You cannot make anyone rebel against Him. 162 Save him who will go to hell. 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers); 165 And verily we! we hallow. 166 They used to say before: 167 "Had we received guidance from the people living before us, 168 we would surely have been Allah's chosen servants.” 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 We decreed that Our Messenger servants 171 that it is certainly they who will be helped; 172 And that Our forces,- they surely must conquer. 173 So turn away from them for a while. 174 and watch them. They, too, will watch. 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 But when it shall descend in their court, evil shall then be the morning of the warned ones. 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 And watch; they will come to know soon. 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 And peace be unto the sent ones. 181 And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. 182
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
