And remember Our bondman Ayyub (Job); when he cried out* to his Lord, “The devil has struck me with hardship and pain.” (After seven years of patience.) 41 [and thereupon was told:] "Strike [the ground] with thy foot: here is cool water to wash with and to drink!" 42 And We granted him his family and a like [number] with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for those of understanding. 43 and, 'Take in thy hand a bundle of rushes, and strike therewith, and do not fail in thy oath.' Surely We found him a steadfast man. How excellent a servant he was! He was a penitent. 44 Also, remember Our worshipers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, those of might and vision. 45 Verily, We did choose them by granting them (a good thing, i.e.) the remembrance of the home [in the Hereafter and they used to make the people remember it, and also they used to invite the people to obey Allah and to do good deeds for the Hereafter]. 46 In Our eyes they were of the chosen, virtuous people. 47 And commemorate Isma'il, Elisha, and Zul-Kifl: Each of them was of the Company of the Good. 48 This is an advice; and indeed for the pious is an excellent abode. 49 the Gardens of eternity with gates thrown wide open to them. 50 Therein they will recline; therein they will call for plenteous fruit and drink. 51 ۞ They will have bashful wives of equal age with them. 52 This it is what you (Al-Muttaqun - the pious) are promised for the Day of Reckoning! 53 Indeed this is Our sustenance, which will never end. 54 This (shall be so); and most surely there is an evil resort for the inordinate ones; 55 they will burn, in Hell, an evil resting place -- 56 There will be boiling water for them and cold, clammy, fetid drink to taste, 57 and other torments of the like kind coupled together. 58 This is an army plunging in without consideration along with you; no welcome for them, surely they shall enter fire. 59 They shall say: Nay! you-- no welcome to you: you did proffer it to us, so evil is the resting-place. 60 They shall say: Our Lord! whoever prepared it first for us, add Thou to him a double chastisement in the fire. 61 And will add: "O what has happened to us that we do not see the men we counted among the wicked. 62 [and] whom we made the target of our derision? Or is it that [they are here, and] our eyes have missed them?" 63 All this is certainly true -- the inhabitants of the Fire will blame one another in this way. 64
