We sent Moses to the Pharaoh and his nobles with Our miracles and he said, "I am the Messenger of the Lord of the Universe". 46 But when he came to them with Our signs, lo! they laughed at them. 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 And they said: O wizard! Entreat thy Lord for us by the pact that He hath made with thee. Lo! we verily will walk aright. 49 But when We had relieved them of their punishment they broke their promise. 50 Pharaoh called to his people, "My people, is the Kingdom of Egypt not mine? And these rivers that flow at my feet, are they not mine? Do you not see? 51 "Am I not better than this one [Musa (Moses)], who is Mahin [has no honour nor any respect, and is weak and despicable] and can scarcely express himself clearly? 52 Why have no armlets of gold been given him, or angels sent down successively with him' 53 Then he incited his people and they obeyed him; verily they were ever a transgressing people. 54 So when they angered Us, We punished them, and drowned them all. 55 We made them a precedent, an example for later peoples. 56
