Indeed We sent Moses with Our Signs to Pharaoh and his nobles. He told them: “I am a Messenger of the Lord of the Universe.” 46 But when he brought them Our signs, at once they laughed at them. 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 'Sorcerer' they said, 'pray to your Lord for us in accordance to the covenant He has made with you, and surely we shall be rightly guided' 49 Yet no sooner did We take away the affliction from them than they broke their pledge. 50 Pharaoh called to his people, "My people, is the Kingdom of Egypt not mine? And these rivers that flow at my feet, are they not mine? Do you not see? 51 I am surely better than this fellow, who is despicable and can hardly make (his meaning) plain! 52 "And then - why have no golden armlets been bestowed on him? or why have no angels come together with him?" 53 So when he had brainwashed his people, they followed him; indeed they were a disobedient nation. 54 So, when they had angered Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all together; 55 We made them a precedent, an example for later peoples. 56
