We sent Moses to the Pharaoh and his nobles with Our miracles and he said, "I am the Messenger of the Lord of the Universe". 46 but when he came to them with Our signs, they ridiculed them, 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 And they said: O magician! call on your Lord for our sake, as He has made the covenant with you; we shall surely be the followers of the right way. 49 But whenever We removed the suffering from them, lo! they would break their word. 50 And the Pharaoh said to his people: "O people, is not mine the kingdom of Egypt and these rivers that flow at my feet? Can you still not comprehend? 51 Or am I [not] better than this one who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear? 52 Why have bracelets of gold not been given to him and why have some angels not accompanied him?" 53 Thus he [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] befooled and misled his people, and they obeyed him. Verily, they were ever a people who were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). 54 So, when they had angered Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all together; 55 and We made them a thing past, and We appointed them for an example to later folk. 56
