The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 And indeed there has come to them news (in this Quran) wherein there is (enough warning) to check (them from evil), 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 turn thou away from them. On the Day when the Summoning Voice will summon [man] unto something that the mind cannot conceive, 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ The people of Nuh (Noah) denied (their Messenger) before them, they rejected Our slave, and said: "A madman!" and he was insolently rebuked and threatened. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
