The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 abasing, exalting, 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and banana trees, 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
