He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
