He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fears (Allah), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
