Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
