The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it covers 1 And the day resplendent 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And affirms goodness, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
