۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
