The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
