۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 "It was you who tried to mislead us from righteousness". 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 Therefore, on that Day they will all share Our punishment. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, 42 In gardens of delight, 43 On thrones facing one another. 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be requited?" 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 He says, 'By God, wellnigh thou didst destroy me; 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 Then he will say [to his blessed companions], "Are we not going to die, 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 And assuredly many of the ancients went astray before them, 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not). 73 Only Our sincere servants were saved. 74
