Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
