The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the star when it descends, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
