The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
