Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 and sailed away in a laden ship, wherein people cast lots. Because he lost, he was thrown into the water. 141 Then a fish swallowed him, and he was blameworthy. 142 But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us), 143 he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. 145 And We grew a tree of gourd (as a shelter) above him. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time. 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Why do you not reflect? 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 Then bring your book, if ye say sooth. 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 Purity is to Allah from the matters they fabricate. 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 Wherefore verily neither ye nor that which ye worship, 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire. 163 The angels say, "Each of us has an appointed place. 164 "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service); 165 We glorify God." 166 What, would they then say: 167 "If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Messenger of Allah). 168 we would surely have been Allah's chosen servants.” 169 but they have rejected it, [the Quran] and they shall soon learn! 170 And, verily, Our Word has gone forth of old for Our slaves, the Messengers, 171 That verily they! they shall be made triumphant. 172 and Our armies shall be the victors. 173 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile, 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, above what they attribute to Him, 180 And peace is upon the Noble Messengers. 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
