The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence - 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 Therefore turn away from them; on the day when the announcer will call towards a severe unknown matter – 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 We carried him, (Noah), on a vessel built with boards fixed together with nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 Ad treated (the truth) as a lie, so how (great) was My punishment and My warning! 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
