Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
