They will ask thee of Dhu'l-Qarneyn. Say: I shall recite unto you a remembrance of him. 83 Say: "I will cite before you his commemoration." We gave him authority in the land and means of accomplishing every end. 84 So he followed a way 85 until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and he found nearby a people. We said, 'O Dhool Karnain, either thou shalt chastise them, or thou shalt take towards them a way of kindness.' 86 He said: As to him who is unjust, we will chastise him, then shall he be returned to his Lord, and He will chastise him with an exemplary chastisement: 87 And as for him who believeth and worketh righteously, unto him shall be a goodly hire, and anon we shall speak unto him of our affair something easy. 88 Then followed he (another) way, 89 until he reached the rising of the sun, he found it rising upon a nation for whom We provided no veil against it to shade them. 90 This indeed was true. We knew all that he did there. 91 He then followed (another) road 92 Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech. 93 They said, 'O Dhool Karnain, behold, Gog and Magog are doing corruption in the earth; so shall we assign to thee a tribute, against thy setting up a barrier between us and between them?' 94 He said, "What My Lord has given me is better [than any tribute]. Help me with a force of labourers and I will erect a barrier between you and them: 95 Bring me sheets of iron" - until, when he had leveled [them] between the two mountain walls, he said, "Blow [with bellows]," until when he had made it [like] fire, he said, "Bring me, that I may pour over it molten copper." 96 (Thus he constructed the barrier which) neither Gog nor Magog were able to climb nor were they able to dig a tunnel through the iron and brass barrier. 97 He said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: But when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will make it into dust; and the promise of my Lord is true." 98 ۞ On that day, We will let them surge on one another, and the Horn shall be blown, and We will gather them all together. 99 Then We shall bring Hell right before the infidels 100 Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance, and they were not able to hear. 101
