۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who originated them, and I am one of those that bear witness thereunto. 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
