This surely is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe: 192 The Trusted Spirit hath brought it down. 193 Upon your heart, for you to convey warning. 194 In plain Arabic speech. 195 This is (indicated) in the Books of earlier people. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that [so many] learned men from among the children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 And if We had revealed it unto one of any other nation than the Arabs, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed. 199 Thus do We cause (unbelief) to enter the hearts of sinners. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment. 201 But the (Penalty) will come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 They will say, "Can we be granted any respite?" 203 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on? 204 Beholdest thou? if We let them enjoy for years. 205 And afterwards comes to them that (punishment) which they had been promised! 206 What shall that which they enjoyed avail them? 207 And never did We destroy a township which did not have Heralds of warning, – 208 By way of admonition, and We have never been oppressors. 209 And [this divine writ is such a reminder:] no evil spirits have brought it down: 210 It is not meet for them, nor is it in their power, 211 Lo! verily they are banished from the hearing. 212 So call thou not upon another god with God, lest thou shouldst be one of those that are chastised. 213 And warn thy tribe of near kindred, 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 And if they disobey thee, say thou: verily I am quit of that which ye work. 216 And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, 217 Who sees you when you arise 218 And your turning over and over among those who prostrate themselves before Allah. 219 Verily! He, only He, is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 220 [And] shall I tell you upon whom it is that those evil spirits descend? 221 They descend upon every lying, sinful one, 222 They listen, but most of them are liars. 223 As for poets, only the wayward follow them. 224 Have you not seen them wandering and bewildered in every valley 225 And that they say what they do not do. 226 [Most of them are of this kind] save those who have attained to faith, and do righteous deeds, and remember God unceasingly, and defend themselves [only] after having been wronged, and [trust in God's promise that] those who are bent on wrongdoing will in time come to know how evil a turn their destinies are bound to take! 227
