The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 by the much-visited House, 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 and the sea that is full 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 “Enter it now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
